A joint meeting between the Renewable Energy Authority, the General Electricity Company, and the Libyan Center for Solar Energy Research and Studies to enhance cooperation and implement clean energy projects in Libya.

As part of the implementation of the National Strategy for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, and to strengthen cooperation between relevant national institutions, an expanded meeting was held on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the headquarters of the Renewable Energy Authority in the capital, Tripoli. The meeting brought together representatives from the General Electricity Company, the Libyan Center for Solar Energy Research and Studies, and the Renewable Energy Authority.


The meeting discussed mechanisms for unifying efforts among the three entities to accelerate the implementation of renewable energy projects in Libya, particularly solar energy projects. These efforts fall within strategic programs aimed at developing clean energy infrastructure across various regions of the country, in line with Libya’s aspirations to achieve sustainable development and reduce dependence on conventional energy sources.


Attending the meeting were Dr. Abdulsalam Al-Ansari, Chairman of the Renewable Energy Authority; Engineer Abdullah Hammouda, General Manager of the General Electricity Company; Dr. Youssef Al-Naas, General Manager of the Libyan Center for Solar Energy Research and Studies; Engineer Nasr Al-Din Amhamed Al-Barqali, Member of the Renewable Energy Authority’s Board of Directors; and Engineer Aseel Younis Mohammed, Chairman of the Renewable Energy Holding Company. A number of department directors from the participating institutions were also present.


The meeting focused on discussing key national initiatives, most notably the "GO GREEN" initiative included in the national strategy, which represents a pivotal step in the transition toward sustainable energy. The attendees agreed to establish a joint working mechanism that includes clear implementation plans, defined timelines, and executable programs over the coming years.


This meeting is considered a strategic step toward building effective partnerships among national institutions in the energy sector, with the goal of supporting the transition to clean energy sources, enhancing energy security, and achieving long-term environmental and economic objectives.
