An Expanded Meeting Held Between Libyan Institutions and “Expertise France” to Promote Green Investment and Sustainable Development

On the morning of Wednesday, February 5, 2025, an expanded meeting was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Economy and Trade in Tripoli, bringing together several Libyan institutions with Expertise France—the French governmental agency for international technical assistance.

From the Libyan side, the meeting was attended by Mr. Mohamed Al-Huwaij, Minister of Economy and Trade, and Dr. Abdulsalam Al-Ansari, Chairman of the Board of the Renewable Energy Authority, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Oil and Gas, the Privatization and Investment Promotion Board, the Libyan Center for Solar Energy Research and Studies, the Libyan Center for Climate Change Research and Studies, the University of Tripoli, the University of Wadi Al-Shati, and the College of Renewable Energy.

Representing Expertise France were Mr. Maxime Boust, Director of the Agency in Libya, and Dr. Mohamed Al-Aswad, Deputy Director.

The discussions focused on exploring opportunities for joint cooperation and formulating a strategic plan aimed at promoting green investment and diversifying the national economy in Libya. Key topics included the development of the renewable energy sector, water and waste management, transport sector modernization, and the protection and sustainable development of natural resources.

Participants also emphasized the importance of investing in human resources through capacity-building and training, as well as encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship. The discussions further highlighted the need to update legislative frameworks and provide the necessary financing to support these vital areas—ultimately contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals and ensuring a resilient and sustainable economic and environmental future for Libya.
