12th Arab Energy Efficiency Day Celebration

The 12th Arab Energy Efficiency Day celebration was held under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo, Egypt. For the first time, Libya officially joined the list of Arab countries that have national strategies for renewable energy and energy efficiency. Mr. Mohamed Dkhail Saidon, Director of the Board Affairs Office at the Renewable Energy Authority, handed Dr. Jamila Matar, Director of the Energy Department at the Arab League, a copy of the National Strategy for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, which was approved by the Government of National Unity. Strategy Details: The strategy was developed in cooperation between:
• The Ministry of Planning
• The Renewable Energy Authority
• The General Electricity Company
• The United States Agency for International Development (USAID)

The strategy is based on several principles, including the Arab Framework Guidelines to improve energy efficiency and rationalize electricity consumption by the final consumer.
Arab Energy Efficiency Day Events: The Renewable Energy Authority participated in the Arab Energy Efficiency Day events, which were of a high-level nature, attended by senior officials and delegations from several Arab countries, as well as representatives from international and regional organizations, and experts in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
The event included several sessions, including:
• A special session to celebrate the Arab Energy Efficiency Day competition for "Best Patent in the Field of Energy Efficiency."
• A panel discussion on the role of research, development, and invention in finding innovative and sustainable solutions to achieve energy efficiency goals in the Arab region.
• A presentation by the Regional Center on the framework guidelines for assessing the cumulative environmental and social impact of renewable energy projects in the Arab region.

This participation underscores Libya's commitment to enhancing energy efficiency and developing renewable energy, contributing to the shared Arab goals in this field.
