The Joint Committee Discusses Plans for Transitioning to Renewable Energy in Public Institutions in Libya

The Joint Committee for Monitoring the Implementation of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Transition Measures within Public Institutions held its first meeting on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the headquarters of the Authority in Tripoli, chaired by Engineer Aseel Younis Mohamed, Chairman of the Committee. The meeting was convened in accordance with the circular issued by the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers and in implementation of Decision No. (30) of 2025.

The meeting was attended by the committee members: Engineer Abdullah Hammouda, General Manager of the General Electricity Company; Dr. Yousef Al-Nuass, General Manager of the Libyan Center for Solar Energy Research and Studies; and Dr. Ali Bin Zaytoun, General Manager of the Libyan Center for Standards and Specifications.

During the meeting, the committee’s overall tasks were reviewed and discussed. The committee will work on monitoring the implementation of renewable energy and energy efficiency transition measures within public institutions, as well as preparing a comprehensive action plan to coordinate efforts among the relevant entities, ensuring role integration to achieve the objectives of the national transition to clean energy in line with the National Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Strategy approved by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

This meeting comes as part of the continuous efforts of the Renewable Energy Authority and all relevant stakeholders to advance the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency, reduce reliance on traditional energy sources, and strengthen Libya’s position among the leading countries adopting clean technologies at both national and international levels.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee emphasized that collective work and continuous coordination among government entities will be the cornerstone for achieving the goals of the energy transition plan, opening new horizons for renewable energy and comprehensive sustainable development across Libya.
