Dialogue Session Held in Tripoli on the Role of the Private Sector in Renewable Energy Projects

A high-level dialogue session titled “The Role of the Private Sector in Renewable Energy Projects Towards an Effective National Partnership” was held at the headquarters of the National Council for Economic and Social Development in Tripoli. The session brought together a distinguished group of officials, experts, and stakeholders in the field of sustainable energy in Libya.

The session was opened by Dr. Mahmoud Al-Futaisi, Director General of the Council, and was attended by:

  • Dr. Saad Hneish, Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade for Economic Affairs
  • Dr. Abdulsalam Al-Ansari, Chairman of the Renewable Energy Authority
  • Eng. Aseel Younis Mohamed, Member of the Board, Renewable Energy Authority
  • Eng. Omar Al-Tawish, Member of the Board, Renewable Energy Authority
  • Eng. Omar Al-Ghaid, Member of the Board, General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL)
  • Dr. Youssef Al-Naas, Director General, Libyan Center for Solar Energy Research and Studies
  • Eng. Khaled Karim, Director of Planning, GECOL
  • Dr. Khaled Ashour, Director of Human Resources, Renewable Energy Authority

The session was also attended by several institutions and agencies specialized in the field, as well as experts and stakeholders interested in renewable energy.

The agenda included several key topics, such as:

  • The current role of the local private sector in renewable energy projects
  • Legislative and regulatory frameworks: challenges and solutions
  • Financing and investment opportunities in renewable energy
  • Implementing quality standards in renewable energy projects

At the conclusion of the session, participants agreed on the importance of organizing joint meetings between the Renewable Energy Authority, GECOL, and the Libyan Center for Solar Energy Research and Studies with local private companies. These efforts aim to enhance collaboration and achieve common goals in advancing the renewable energy sector in Libya.
