The Renewable Energy Authority discusses with the Chinese side expanding cooperation in clean energy projects

A broad meeting was held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at the headquarters of the Renewable Energy Authority in Tripoli, dedicated to discussing ways to enhance joint cooperation with the Chinese side in the fields of renewable energy and clean energy. The meeting was held within the framework of the work of the Higher Committee for Supervising Libyan–Chinese Cooperation, of which the Renewable Energy Authority is a member, established pursuant to Council of Ministers Resolution No. (442) of 2025.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Abdulsalam Al-Ansari, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Renewable Energy Authority, and attended by:

  • Eng. Mahmoud Al-Qallai – Member of the Authority’s Board of Directors
  • Eng. Aseel Younes Mohammed – Chairman of the Board of the Renewable Energy Holding Company
  • Eng. Ibrahim Al-Shanta – Director of the Investment Department at the Renewable Energy Authority

Representing the Chinese side, Mr. Liu Jian, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Libya, was also in attendance.

During the meeting, the Libyan side presented the National Energy and Energy Efficiency Strategy, which aims to integrate 20% renewable energy sources into Libya’s overall energy mix by 2035, thereby supporting sustainable development and diversifying energy sources.

The two sides also discussed promising investment opportunities in solar and wind energy projects, highlighting targeted projects to develop renewable energy infrastructure in several regions, which offer broad prospects for partnership and joint investment.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening continuous coordination through the Libyan–Chinese Joint Higher Committee and accelerating the transformation of shared visions into practical and tangible projects on the ground, in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both countries.
