As part of efforts to enhance international cooperation and develop sustainable energy projects, the Renewable Energy Authority held a broad meeting on the morning of Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at its headquarters in the capital, Tripoli, with a high-level delegation from the European Union. The delegation included a group of senior officials and experts specializing in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
The meeting was chaired on the Libyan side by Dr. Abdulsalam Al-Ansari, Chairman of the Authority’s Board of Directors, in the presence of Engineer Nasruddin Mohamed Al-Barqali, a board member, along with several department and technical office directors within the Authority.

During the meeting, officials from the Authority presented a comprehensive technical overview of the National Strategy for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. This strategy aims to increase the contribution of clean energy sources to the national energy mix, reduce carbon emissions, and achieve environmental sustainability.
The meeting also highlighted several strategic projects currently being implemented by the Authority, foremost among them the Mediterranean Electricity Interconnection Project. This project is one of the region’s ambitious initiatives to transmit clean electricity from Libya to Europe and to strengthen cooperation in the field of energy security between both sides.
The EU delegation commended the progress made by the Authority in project planning and implementation, reaffirming the European Union's readiness to support Libyan initiatives aimed at accelerating the transition to clean energy and promoting energy and economic stability in Libya.
For his part, Dr. Abdulsalam Al-Ansari emphasized the Authority’s commitment to further developing the sector and expanding cooperation with international partners, especially in areas related to regional interconnection and sustainable energy exchange. These efforts, he stated, serve the goals of sustainable development and reinforce Libya’s position as a reliable energy source in the region.
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the importance of continued technical coordination and intensified joint efforts to ensure tangible results that advance the green transition and strengthen Libya’s national interests in the energy sector.
