As part of its efforts to enhance international cooperation and broaden sustainable development horizons in Libya, the Renewable Energy Authority held an official celebration at its headquarters in Tripoli on Wednesday morning, May 7, 2025. The event marked the strengthening of its strategic partnership with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), one of the foremost international supporters of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in Libya.
The celebration was attended by Dr. Abdulsalam Al-Ansari, Chairman of the Authority’s Board of Directors, alongside Board members Engineer Nasruddin Mohamed Al-Barqali and Engineer Aseel Younes Ertima. Representing GIZ was Mr. Christian Liedtke, Director of the Sustainable Transformation and Renewable Energy Partnership Project, accompanied by a delegation from the agency. The event also saw the presence of high-level representatives from the European Union and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to Libya, in addition to several directors, office heads, and staff members of the Authority.
The event culminated in highlighting a series of joint achievements realized over the past years within the framework of cooperation between the Authority and GIZ. A comprehensive report was announced, documenting the major programs implemented and the outcomes that contributed to building national capacities and developing competencies in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
The occasion also served as a platform to announce key elements of the future cooperation plan between both parties, aimed at expanding the scope of joint programs, enhancing the transfer of advanced German expertise in institutional capacity building, implementing high-impact sustainable projects, and encouraging German investments in Libya’s energy sector—all in support of national goals to transition toward clean energy.
In their remarks, participants expressed deep appreciation for the existing partnership between the Authority and GIZ, affirming their joint commitment to continue this constructive cooperation. They emphasized that this partnership strengthens Libya’s capabilities to face energy challenges and supports a sustainable transition to a low-emission economy in line with an ambitious national vision for sustainable development.
