Libya, represented by the Renewable Energy Authority and the Ministries of Environment and Water Resources, signed on Tuesday morning in the capital Tripoli a joint cooperation agreement with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) to implement the “STEP” Program — Sustainable Transition and Partnership in the fields of Energy and Environment — supported by the European Union and co-funded by Germany.
Representing the Renewable Energy Authority at the signing ceremony were Eng. Aseel Younes Mohamed and Eng. Nasr Al-Din Mohamed Al-Burqali, both members of the Authority’s Board of Directors. The ceremony was also attended by the Acting Minister of Water Resources, representatives from the Ministries of Environment and Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Director General of the General Electricity Company of Libya, the Director General of the Solar Energy Research and Studies Center, as well as the EU Ambassador to Libya, the Chargé d’Affaires of the German Embassy in Tripoli, and a number of experts and specialists in the fields of energy, environment, and water.
The program aims to support national efforts in developing an integrated framework linking energy, water, and climate action, by strengthening governance, technical capacity, and institutional coordination within these vital sectors. This initiative contributes to achieving sustainable development and promoting Libya’s transition toward a more efficient and sustainable economy.
