Board Member of the Renewable Energy Authority Participates in the 24th Session of the Board of Trustees of the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) in Kuwait

Engineer Nasruddin Mohamed Al-Barqali, Board Member of the Renewable Energy Authority and Member of the Board of Trustees of the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), participated in the 24th Session of the RCREEE Board of Trustees, held last week on February 18–19, 2025, in the State of Kuwait.

The current session was chaired by Engineer Ahmed Al-Dosari, Board Member representing the State of Kuwait, and attended by the Chairman, Board Members, and representatives of RCREEE’s Arab member states. The session was officially opened by Dr. Mahmoud Abdulaziz Boushahri, Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy of Kuwait.

The session addressed several key topics, foremost among them the approval of RCREEE’s 2025 Work Plan, which includes a variety of programs and mechanisms aimed at providing technical support and assistance to member states in implementing their national strategies for renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The plan focused on encouraging the adoption of wide-scale national programs to deploy modern renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies across various sectors, with increased investments to enhance energy supply sustainability, support national economies, and contribute to climate change mitigation by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

During the meeting, Dr. Zouheir Hamdi from the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria was appointed as the new Executive Director of RCREEE, following the adoption of the final report on the selection process.

The sessions also included the announcement of the upcoming “Kuwait Sustainable Energy Week,” scheduled for May 2025, which will bring together policymakers, experts, and investors from around the world to discuss the latest developments in renewable energy and energy efficiency at both Arab and global levels.

In conclusion, participants emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation among Arab member states to overcome challenges in developing the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors, and to maximize their contribution to national energy systems, ensuring a more sustainable and prosperous future for the Arab region.
