Under the patronage of the Renewable Energy Authority (REAOL), and in cooperation with the University of Sirte and the New and Renewable Energy Research Center, a scientific seminar entitled “Clean Energy and Sustainable Development: Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Applications” was held on Monday, 28 September 2026, at the University of Sirte.

The seminar brought together a distinguished group of academics, researchers, and specialists in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable development.

The event was attended by Eng. Nasr Eldin Emhammad Al-Barqali, Member of the Board of Directors of the Renewable Energy Authority, alongside Eng. Mohamed Al-Zalouk, General Manager of the Renewable Energy Holding Company, as well as a number of directors of departments and offices from the Authority and the Holding Company. The seminar was also attended by a number of academics, specialists, and professionals interested in energy and sustainable development.

During the seminar, the Renewable Energy Authority delivered a visual presentation on its Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Strategy, highlighting its strategic directions and objectives for supporting the expansion of renewable energy use and improving energy efficiency. The presentation also outlined key programs, projects, and initiatives being implemented by the Authority in these fields.

The seminar addressed a range of scientific and research topics related to the future of energy in Libya, including prospects for sustainable energy, renewable energy in the Arab region, the legislative framework governing new capacity in the Libyan energy market, the integration of renewable energy into the electricity sector, as well as research, applied, and training capabilities. Discussions also covered residential solar energy applications and energy efficiency.

Participants further discussed a number of topics related to energy management using artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT), green industrial transformation, and energy efficiency labels, in addition to several initiatives and proposals aimed at supporting the wider adoption of clean energy sources and enhancing energy consumption efficiency.

The Renewable Energy Authority’s patronage and participation in the seminar come as part of its efforts to strengthen cooperation with academic and research institutions, promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise, support scientific research, and raise awareness of renewable energy and energy efficiency. These efforts contribute to building a strong scientific and knowledge base to support Libya’s transition toward a sustainable energy future.
