As part of the Government of National Unity’s ongoing efforts to monitor the performance of public institutions, the Minister of State for the Prime Minister and Cabinet Affairs, H.E. Dr. Mohammed Ben Ghalboun, paid an official visit to the Renewable Energy Authority on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, to review the Authority’s activities and assess progress in implementing the National Renewable Energy Strategy approved by the Council of Ministers.

During the visit, an expanded meeting was held under the chairmanship of H.E. Dr. Mohammed Ben Ghalboun, in the presence of the Chairman of the Renewable Energy Authority, Dr. Abdulsalam Al-Ansari, the Chairman of the Renewable Energy Holding Company, Eng. Aseel Younes Mohammed, as well as a number of directors of departments and offices within the Authority.

The meeting reviewed the implementation progress of the Authority’s programs and projects and discussed the key technical and administrative challenges facing the execution of the National Renewable Energy Strategy. Participants also explored mechanisms to accelerate project implementation in order to strengthen the contribution of renewable energy to Libya’s national electricity system and support the country’s sustainable development objectives.

In his remarks, H.E. the Minister of State commended the Renewable Energy Authority for its dedicated efforts and highly praised the significant achievements accomplished by the Authority, particularly the University of Tripoli Solar Power Plant Project, which was successfully implemented by the Authority. He emphasized the importance of expediting the transition from planning to the actual implementation of priority projects.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to launch a new package of strategic projects, including programs to provide hybrid solar energy systems for mosques, administrative buildings, and public educational institutions. These initiatives aim to increase reliance on clean energy sources while enhancing the stability and resilience of the national electricity grid.

The participants also reaffirmed the importance of completing the executive procedures for the 500 MW Sadada Solar Power Plant Project, the first utility-scale solar energy project in Libya. The project represents a strategic milestone in strengthening the national electricity grid, enhancing the country's energy security, and diversifying its energy mix.

This visit reflects the Government of National Unity’s commitment to closely following the implementation of priority national projects and supporting institutions responsible for renewable energy. It also underscores the Government’s vision of accelerating Libya’s transition toward a more sustainable economy and reinforcing the country's position as a promising destination for investment in clean energy.
