The Renewable Energy Authority and the Ports and Maritime Transport Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today, Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the Authority’s headquarters in the city of Tripoli, with the aim of supporting the transition toward clean energy use and enhancing environmental sustainability in the Libyan ports sector.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Board of the Renewable Energy Authority, Dr. Abdul Salam Suleiman Al-Ansari, and the Chairman of the Ports and Maritime Transport Authority, Eng. Mohammed Salem Al-Siouy, along with a number of department and office directors from both sides.
This memorandum comes within the framework of implementing the national renewable energy strategy and the development plan for the ports sector, in a way that enhances the country’s energy security, supports emissions reduction, and ensures compliance with international environmental standards, particularly the MARPOL Convention.
The MoU aims to strengthen cooperation in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency through the implementation of joint projects and the exchange of expertise, contributing to the development of a clean energy system within ports, improving air quality, and enhancing environmental performance efficiency.
It also seeks to enhance the position of Libyan ports as green ports attractive to investment, and to support the national direction toward sustainable development and energy transition
