As part of efforts to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise between the Kingdom of Morocco and the State of Libya in the fields of sustainable energy and energy transition, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development of Morocco received a high-level Libyan delegation comprising the Chairman of the Renewable Energy Authority, Dr. Abdul Salam Al-Ansari, members of the Board of Directors, directors of departments and offices, and the General Manager of the Renewable Energy Holding Company. The delegation also included representatives from the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL), the Libyan Embassy in Morocco, the Libyan Audit Bureau, and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Libya.
The Moroccan side was headed by the Secretary-General of the Ministry, Mr. Mohamed Hamid, in the presence of several directors, heads of departments, and specialized offices. The meeting provided an important platform for exchanging views and expertise on ways to advance the renewable energy sector and enhance energy efficiency in both countries.
During the meeting, the Ministry delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting Morocco’s major achievements in the field of renewable energy over recent years. The presentation showcased the country’s strategic flagship projects that have positioned Morocco as a regional and international model for energy transition through significant investments in solar and wind energy, as well as the development of sustainable energy infrastructure.
The Libyan delegation also presented the National Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Strategy, outlining its objectives, key pillars, and implementation programs aimed at diversifying energy sources, increasing the contribution of clean energy to the national energy mix, and improving energy efficiency in support of Libya’s sustainable development goals.
The delegation further held a meeting with the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN). During the meeting, MASEN presented Morocco’s experience in renewable energy development, highlighting its most prominent projects and achievements, in addition to the legal and regulatory framework governing the sector and the policies supporting investment in clean energy.
These meetings come within the framework of joint efforts to strengthen the longstanding brotherly relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the State of Libya and to open new avenues for technical and institutional cooperation in the energy sector. This sector represents one of the key pillars for achieving sustainable development and addressing future challenges related to energy security and climate change.
